Payroll Administrator CBD, City Centre, Durban City. A well-established company in the CDB area are looking for a Payroll administrator to fit into their company to run and ensure all payroll and other administrative are carried out efficiently on a daily basis.

Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering data. Updates payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job title and department/division transfers. Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and non taxable wages.

Determines payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment, and worker’s compensation payments.

Resolves payroll discrepancies by collecting and analysing information. Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests. Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes. Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Accounting coordinates and oversees payroll staff’s day to day activities as it relates to the timely and accurate processing of payroll. This includes all aspects of the payroll such as the time keeping system, taxes, reporting and administration of policies and procedures. Performs on-line monitoring, correcting, and processing of payroll information; resolves payroll questions that require legal or policy interpretations; conducts pre-payroll system checks/tests internal controls; and analyzes data/information to monitor system performance and customer service.

Responsible for the planning and implementation of necessary system/process changes used to increase efficiencies within the Payroll Department to meet the company’s operational and financial objectives. Responsible for timely and accurate transaction processing to insure compliance and meet deadlines

The Payroll Manager is expected to follow regulatory accounting guidelines State & Local government payroll tax regulations. This individual must adhere to the Core Values and operate with high ethical standards.

Job Responsibilities: Manage various personnel functions including but not limited to hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules. Maintain and develop performance standards and reporting to monitor associates’ adherence to the expectations. Handle escalated problems as needed providing quality service and ensuring customer satisfaction Performs periodic, quarterly and annual tax filing reconciliations timely. Develops policies and procedures necessary to develop, test, maintain, and operate the system. Directs the analysis of system changes ensuring accurate and timely cost/benefit analysis.

Prepare and distribute annual w-2’s Complies with local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions. Test and document systems from a Disaster Recovery perspective Document and approve compliance within time-sensitive deadlines. Coordinates audit requests for areas of responsibilities and assist with communication to the internal and external audit teams.

Assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the current process to streamline workflow. Develop, implement, and communicate process improvements; maintain documentation of all departmental procedures. Ensures policies and guidelines are enforced through the proper calculation of time. Confirms that payroll is processed in an accurate, compliant and timely manner. Prepares monthly payroll accrual work papers and journal entries.

Reconciles payroll related balance sheet accounts. Research employment expense variations for various Finance staff. Perform testing of periodic PeopleSoft payroll/tax updates. Identify process improvements or existing defects, develop and test solutions to address defects or implement improvements.

Job Requirements: 5 – 7 years of payroll experience, including multi-state with a successful and proven track record. 3 - 5 years of Accounting experience. 2 – 3 years of team lead or supervisory experience. Experience in reconciling payroll GL file to the financial statements and balance sheet account reconciliations. At least 1-2 years of Workday Payroll experience.
