The BC Health Coalition seeks a Community Health Development Worker
The Community Health Development Worker conducts community-based research and outreach around key health care issues such as: home support, seniors’ care, people with disabilities’ access to care, and end-of-life care.  A key focus of the student’s work will be to develop and provide public information about a constitutional challenge to public health care that goes to the BC Supreme Court in September. The Community Health Development Worker is integral in increasing and building upon the successes of the BC Health Coalition’s work.
Duties include:
    Assist in research and outreach on public health policy and law, especially the BC court challenge to Medicare,
    Development of outreach materials on health care issues affecting seniors, people with disabilities, marginalized communities and women;
    Conducting outreach and presentations about key health care issues at community events;
    Assist in the development of outreach materials
    Utilizing social media tools to conduct outreach about key health care issues;
    Assisting in coordinating special events;
    Collaborating on web and materials design.
Qualifications:
    Interest in public health care, law and/or public policy.  Preference will be given to applicants pursuing studies in at least one of these areas.
    Outreach and public speaking experience
    Good personal organization skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and use time effectively
    Excellent written and verbal skills
    Knowledge of social media tools
    Ability to speak a second language is an asset
    Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment
This position is available for a 9 week period between June 16th, 2014 and the end of August 2014. The hours of work are 30 hours per week at $19.62 per hour.
As per Service Canada requirements, this position is available to workers who have been registered as full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year and are between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
The successful applicant will become a member of Unifor Local 467 and covered by the terms of the collective agreement.
