Location, Midrand, Johannesburg, Advertised By Agency, Job Type Full-Time, Splicing Technician and Assistants, Position Summary and primary Objectives, Perform fibre optic splicing, testing and fault finding in the fibre network; Carry out duties in accordance with customer specifications and health & safety act.
Qualifications and Experience: CFOT accreditation and the ability to understand splicing instructions; 1-3 Years background in the Fibre and or telecommunications industry.
Main Duties / Key Accountabilities Duties: Fusion splicing of SM and MM fiber optic cables, including the termination of various types of fiber optic connectors (ST,SC, LC); Installation of enclosures on all types and sizes of cable; Testing and fault finding of fiber optic cables by means of an OTDR and power meter light source; Installation and dressing of fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal); Preparing and splicing of all types of splice drawers; Document and maintain splicing instructions according to field activities; Request hand hole access from NOC operators; Carry out regular maintenance activities such as cable cut overs on the fiber optic network; Report fiber network and hand hole irregularities to the maintenance supervisor; Perform work in hand holes and splice enclosures in accordance with customer specifications; Ensure that customer specific naming convention is applied across the network; Ensure correct stock is issued and returned on each project; Maintain and safe guard all company assets and equipment; Inform the supervisor when equipment is due for a service; Assist with site build installation in order to gain experience with regards to the duties of Installation Managers and Site Leaders; Become familiar with the specifications and standards of all clients; Send daily updates to supervisor on the status of work in progress; Ensure that all team members wear appropriate CIS clothing and PPE; Carry out daily H&S duties on site in accordance to CIS standards and ensure site file is updated; Transfer skills to team members for technicians who do Installations of Fiber Optic General.
Keep abreast of Health & Safety requirements and standards and give regular feedback to the Safety & Quality officer and employees; Know the T-Drive and where to find info, processes, etc; Excellent skill and knowledge in terms of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook; Meticulous attention to detail when it comes to administration; Honest and reliable; On-going self-evaluation and training; At times you might be expected to fulfil other duties within the Operational Division and therefore must be familiar with the roles of your colleagues.
