Ass. Plantation Manager / Agronomist Job Opening on Bamboo Farm, Location, Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, Advertised By Private, Job Type Full-Time, EcoPlanet Bamboo Southern Africa is looking for an Assistant Plantation Manager to assist with plantation operations for the 480 ha Kowie Bamboo Farm.

The Assistant Plantation Manager’s responsibilities include: Plantation, Plant management including adaptive fertilizer applications, pest management schemes and irrigation. Soil assessments and resulting adaptive treatments. Assists the Planation Manager in managing daily operations including the oversight of large staff teams of unskilled and semi-skilled workers, scheduling of operations, and maintenance of farm equipment. Implementation of monitoring programs, statistical analysis of results, and application of necessary treatments to maximize plant growth and health. Implementation of research programs and staff training programs. Adherence to international certification standards, in particular the Forest Stewardship Council, through plantation planning and administrative work. Regular reporting and updating of plantation database and EPBG EHS procedures, Weekly submission of KPIs. Tracking and recording productivity data of the general workers. Implementing EcoPlanet Bamboo SA’s disciplinary policies. Enacting the Farm’s Fire Management Plan.

Environment: Ensure the protection of indigenous flora and fauna, and maintain a strong environmentally friendly presence by planning for, carrying out, and enforcing the Biodiversity Action Plan. Overseeing an indigenous plant nursery for rehabilitation material for the conservation areas.

Qualifications: 2+ years experience in farming or forestry and at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role. A B-tech or Master’s in related field. A diploma in a related field with 3+ years experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree. Experience managing unskilled and semi-skilled workers. Ability to collect and analysis data in order to make operational decisions. Willingness to be in the field – rain or shine. A team player who takes pride in their work and seeks to add value to their work place. Fluent in English and Xhosa, with strong writing skills. Salary – R15,000 / month, negotiable, plus onsite housing.
